Mary Williamson
Psychodynamic Counsellor.
I am a qualified counsellor with a Diploma in counselling. Before moving to France six years ago, I practised as a psychodynamic counsellor in North London and was responsible for and taught on counselling courses in a college of further education. I also offered supervision to counselling colleagues.
I was an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. The accreditation lapsed as I took a break from counselling whilst establishing myself in the Auvergne. However I am a now member again and work to their code of ethics.
As a young teacher I worked in special schools for children with emotional difficulties. Because of family commitments I changed course and taught English language to adults who had come to live in Britain as refugees and immigrants. Listening to their difficulties led me to do a counselling training and so into teaching counselling and practising as a counsellor. Although I live in France by choice and in much more privileged circumstances, I have come through many of the feelings and anxieties that my students described: separation from friends and family, financial difficulties, helplessness, dependence from lack of language, frustration from living in a different system.
It may be that you have other emotional or practical difficulties that you need to talk over or you may not be sure what the root of you depression or unhappiness is. I am offering
Or by phone on: 0473949975
You may want to talk over an immediate decision that you have to make. My part in this would not be to tell you what is best but would be to listen very carefully and help you find what action you think best to take.
It maybe that you are experiencing grief to do with the loss of a person, that you are missing friends or family, that coming to live in France is not as easy as you expected. It might be difficult to talk these things over with those close to you.
If you feel counselling with me might help we arrange a time to talk by email . The first phone first session is free. The contract can be time-limited or open ended.
If there areas where practical help with establishing yourself and your family in France would alleviate some of the stress, or you need translation of documents or an interpreter to go with you to an appointment I can refer you on to a colleague.

I describe myself as a `psychodynamic counsellor`.
What does that mean?
I believe that often, when we are unhappy and stuck and can`t seem to find a solution, the answer may lie in the forgotten past. The past to some extent determines the present and future and if we can come to terms with difficult experiences we have had which may have been buried there is a chance of moving on in the present. It is not a matter of explaining and blaming others for our unhappiness but a `working through`in relation to the counsellor so that we can take responsibility for ourselves, confront pain and difficulties and live more in the way we want to.
